We, the congregation of St. Michael’s Church are a very friendly group of people, meeting together throughout the week, not just on Sunday. Our Services are bilingual. We try to give loving support to each other - there is a true sense of belonging and a great feeling of ‘family’. Efforts are made to visit the housebound and the two residential homes, Bryn Blodau and Bryn Llewelyn.

We have a strong spirit of co-operation here in Ffestiniog, with a wide range of tastes, and great tolerance. We are willing to consider new ideas, accept newcomers and work with them. We are proud of our links with Capel Bethel, the local Independent non-conformist Chapel, and the local primary school, which has connections with both Church and Chapel. We have recently established a link with St. Peter’s Church, Adyel, Lango in Uganda and plan to support them financially. The Church has been fitted with a sophisticated Sound / Loop Induction System which has greatly enhanced the already very good acoustics of the building.

Worship and Ministry

We use 'An Order for Holy Eucharist, 2004' with the Common Revised Lectionary for readings. Morning Prayer and Family Services are used periodically. Thursday morning sees a small, dedicated group meeting together at 8.45am for a service of Morning Prayer, using ‘An Alternative Order for Morning and Evening Prayer’. Similarly, on a Thursday evening at 7.00pm there is a group that gathers for Bible Study and fellowship in a member’s home.

Worship is perhaps less formal than in some of the other Churches in the area, and hymns and songs ‘old and new’ are included in the service to cater for all needs, endeavouring to achieve a balance. Our regular organist has considerable expertise in leading musical worship, and there is one licensed Reader in the Parish who assists our rector with services and, on one Sunday a month takes the service herself.

Services are always bi-lingual and members of the congregation take an active part with the bible readings and leading of intercessions. Average attendance at Sunday worship is in the region of 24, we are growing steadily, and occasionally holidaymakers join us. In recent years, we have held ecumenical services / study sessions during Advent and Lent, with the local Independent Chapel and the Roman Catholic Church.

We are part of a benifice, comprising three parishes - St David's of Blaenau Ffestiniog, St Madryn's of Trawsfynydd, and ourselves. Joint services are regularly held by the three congregations.
